during the glory days of angkor and its peak, the territory making up the khmer empire were marked as boundaries using palm trees, bc as you know, maps and the concept of 'national borders' was not fully grasped by rulers. where palm trees grew in mainland se asia, was the scope of angkor's power. unfortunately, and not surprising, our neighbors have been cutting them down since angkor's demise in the 1400s to the present.
